Blue Ridge Community Theatre and ASU Department of Theatre and Dance Announce the Cast of
In their first ever collaboration, ASU theatre and BRCT, Boone's only community theatre, have teamed up to present a classic production of "Arsenic and Old Lace." This show written by Joseph Kesslering opened in 1941 and is celebrating it's 70th year of murder and mayhem. Also made into a film, this play has remained a favorite for several generations of theater patrons. Not to give the plot away, but sometimes murder is no mystery, especially in this very funny peek at what it means to be family. This show will be done completely in front of the curtain at Valborg Theatre on Aug. 9, 10 and 11. A special treat for theater buffs will be an open rehearsal for the public to watch on July 21st.A Peter Rabbit Tale

Arsenic and Old Lace
Sue Williams and Anna Ward, both faculty at ASU's theater department will play the charmingly insane sisters Abby and Martha Brewster. Anna has also directed several shows from the Blue Ridge Community Theatre. Frank Mohler, Professor Emeritus of Theatre History, will play the part of Dr. Harper. Joe Watson, Ryan Sheehe and Will Gwyn will have the roles of the friendly but not too observant officers. Victor Rivera will transform into the alcoholic surgeon, Dr. Einstein. All four of these young actors are theatre majors at ASU.
Tommy Brown, a veteran of Blue Ridge Community Theatre, will have the challenging role of Teddy Brewster. Teddy is a loveable fool who truely believes he is Teddy Roosevelt. The part of Elaine Harper, a beautiful and intelligent newlywed, will be done by Jenny Kotowski, a recent graduate of ASU. Jeremiah Miller is new to the area and making his BRCT debut as the dapper drama critic Mortimer Brewster, the part Cary Grant held in the 1944 film version.
Two seasoned actors from the Blowing Rock State Company will join the cast. Mark Suggs will play the sinister Brewster nephew Jonathan, and Chandler Walploe will play the no nonsense police officer Lt. Rooney.
This production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" will be directed by ASU's Derek Gagnier. Backstage crew will involve Hannah Fuller (Stage Manager), Carlyn Holland (Assistant Director), Martha Marking (Costume Design), John Marty (Lighting), Mike Helms (Set Design) and Neil Reda (Tech Director).
