Letter to the Community
THEANTICIPATION…….
Since 1976, Blue Ridge Community Theatre (BRCT) has been filling the hills of western North Carolina with the sounds of laughter, drama, and music. Community members have donated their time to help with publicity, fund raising, and all the many jobs that go into a production. BRCT has made a difference in many lives here in the High Country.
“Blue Ridge Community Theatre provides the rare opportunity for young children, teenagers and adults of all ages to collaborate on a common project, respecting and relying on each others' varying contributions - and it is so much fun!”
-Pat Beaver, Past President of BRCT
“Blue Ridge Community Theater not only gives the adults in our community an opportunity to participate in theatrical productions, but it also provides our children with a wonderful introduction to theater. Children of all ages are given the chance to sing, dance, and act – and then to perform in front of hundreds of people. They develop confidence and skills that carry over into other areas of their lives (in addition to having lots of fun!), and the experience is such a positive one that they return year after year.”
-Dottie Sykes, Children’s Choral Director
"Diana, Patrick and I moved ot Boone in 1990 and in 1991 Melanie was born. With a brand new high pressure sales job and a new baby we didn't have a lot of time to explore theatrical opportunities in Boone, but when my mother and father-in-law came for a visit we took them to see "Music Man." We were all blown away! What a fanatastic production. We decided to audition for "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" and all four of us were cast. Melanie was the baby in the lifeboat. We've been hooked ever since."
-Paul Haas
The first musical produced by Blue Ridge Community Theatre was Oklahoma! in the spring of 1977. Since then there have been many musicals such as The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Peter Pan, and The Music Man - just to name a few. BRCT's spring show for 2004 was its second production of Annie.-Pat Beaver, Past President of BRCT

"To me, "Annie" was one of the greatest opportunities that I could have. It was so much fun, and I made so many friends! I felt like it was a great opportunity for all of the kids. It was an awesome show and I think it really brought the community together."-Jessica Presnell, BRCTs 2004 Annie
“I cherish the memories I hold of my experiences with BRCT. Annie set my life in a different direction and opened many doors for me. It truly changed my life."
-Caroline Capps Miller, Annie 1984
“Blue Ridge Community Theatre has really made many great memories for me. They welcomed me in when I was young and have ever since been so supportive of my acting. They always choose the most fun productions!!! Not only have I improved and had experience on stage but also I have made many fantastic friends that I will have for years to come. Thank you BRCT!!!”

Blue Ridge Community Theatre has worked with Appalachian State University Young People’s Theatre and Lees McRae College Theatre in producing shows in the community. The presence of community theatre provides an outlet for college students beyond the campus and brings them in contact with the community. Moreover, the faculty of these two outstanding schools regularly donate their time and talent to assist BRCT in producing shows.
“Blue Ridge Community Theatre's musical productions have been a real asset to the High Country community over the years. The experience of working with Dr. Janet Speer has been invaluable to all of the talented dancers, singers, actors and musicians involved in the presentations. Dr. Speer has the unique gift of giving valued experience to the professional performer, as well as the amateur. I have been honored to assist BRCT with the orchestral coordination of the spring musicals.”

-Graydon Eggers, Orchestra Conductor
"Being part of Blue Ridge Community Theatre's productin of 'Annie' was one of the best times that I ever had. I was chosen to play the part of 'Kate', one of the main orphans, and I learned do much from Doc and Dottie. I made lots of special friends and memories that will last a lifetime. I will never forget the fun experience I had and hope to find myself on stage again real soon. Thank you Blue Ridge Community Theatre for givng me the opportunity to shine."
